Happy New Year!

How are we all feeling these days???? If you’re like me, you’re wondering how we got here and what happened to 2023. The last few months of the year were especially busy for me personally. We celebrated several family milestones by taking a couple of amazing trips with family and friends. Combine the travel with the usual hectic season between Thanksgiving and New Years and it’s easy to see why my head is spinning as we start a new year.

It has taken me much of January to get back to a routine. Now I can really begin to look forward to what this brand new year will bring. Each year I choose a word that I want to focus on and really embrace to become my very best self. Life can throw a lot of curve balls, so I find having a word to focus on helps bring things into perspective.

This year I’ve chosen the word ‘present’, as in be fully in the moment. I feel like I have a tendency to look ahead or look back and not really be in the moment. The anticipation of something brings more excitement or anxiety than the event itself, so when it’s over, I feel let down or like I missed the good part. Can anyone relate???

Resolutions can be too vague, not truly attainable, or just plain overwhelming from the pressure we put on ourselves to make the change. I find that a word is intentional and is easier to incorporate into my daily life. This word can guide you in decision making when you feel conflicted just by remembering what you chose it for at the beginning of the year. By being present, I can prioritize how my time is spent. Life these days if full of distractions, and I often feel scattered by all of the incoming noise. Choosing to be present helps me make decisions more easily by keeping this word in mind. More importantly it helps me decide who I want to spend my time with.

What traditions do you have for the start of a new year? If you also choose a word, tell me what it is and why you chose it.

Ok 2024, I’m ready, let’s do this!
